Blogger or BlogSpot is a popular known platform that is own and manages by Google. Initially when someone decides to blog, He/she start with a BlogSpot platform, which is always advisable to start with because you don’t have to spend much especially if you are new to the blogging world. The blogger platform doesn’t require any coding knowledge or training before you set up a blog for yourself all you need to do is to log in to the blogger website and fill out the necessary form you see on your screen.
In this tutorial, I will be sharing with you how you can migrate or transfer Blogger to WordPress, as I have earlier said blogger is a good starting point for every new blogger. But there is some shortcoming when using the BlogSpot platform and you are not always considered as a serious blogger. Which could be one of the reasons you want to migrate to WordPress.
WordPress.org gives you the full control over your blog and with the help of Plugins it gives you easy customization of how you want you to want your blog to look like and also allows you to add more features to your blog. Blogger also gives you that with the help of templates but they are limited. Let go through on how we can move your blog from blogger to WordPress.
Here is a quick step we need to take to move our blog from blogger to WordPress.
- Sign up with a web host account
- Install your WordPress
- Export your data from your BlogSpot blog
- Import BlogSpot to WordPress
- Assign an Author (Users)
- Set Up permalinks on your WordPress dashboard
- Move all your blog post and other content from Blogger to WordPress
Step 1: Sign Up with a web host account
Unlike blogger that you have to do some few clicks and your blog Is good and up running. In WordPress it different, to run your blog on WordPress you have to register a domain and web hosting account from any web hosting providers such as Bluehost, Namecheap, GoDaddy, and Garanntor, Qserver from Nigeria. You can get a domain from GoDaddy at $11 while Qserver gives you a Top-Level Domain at 3500 Naira and Web Host for 6500 Naira depending on your plan of choice.
Step 2: Install your WordPress website
After you have signed up with a hosting provider your next step is to install your WordPress blog from localhost to your web host live server or directly from the dashboard of your cPanel host. To install WordPress directly from your host provider, log in to your cPanel account and scroll down to (SOFTACULOUS APPS INSTALLER) click on the WordPress logo and follow the instructions to install. Once your installation is properly done, here is an example of how your URL will look like (http://yoursite/wp-admin) you can now log in to your WordPress account with the details sent to you on your email address.
Step 3: Export Your BlogSpot Blog

To export your blog from blogger to WordPress is quite easy and simple to do because WordPress offers you a tool to do that. But before moving your BlogSpot blog you have to first back up your files, just to keep your files saved. To back up your files simply go to TEMPLATE at the right side of your dashboard and then click BACK/RESTORE at the top Left corner of your dashboard. This will now trigger a notification pop up asking you to click on Save To Your Computer.
Step 4: Import your BlogSpot to WordPress.

Once you have finished with the downloading of your exported file from BlogSpot, next is to import your exported file into the WordPress site you created earlier. To import your file, you can have to log in to WordPress dashboard if you haven’t done that, Now look carefully at your dashboard place your cursor to Tools and it will bring up a lot list, then click on Import.
You will have a list of different blog platform, on the first list, you will see Blogger Click Install.

Immediately, you will get a notification asking to install Blogger Importer Click on install, once the plugin installs successfully click on the link which says Activate Plugin & Run Importer it will now take you to another page Click Authorize.
You will then be taken to your google account to have an authorize WordPress access to your blogger account. Click on Allow Access to continue

You will be taken back to your WordPress website. you will see a list of all your blogger blogs select the blog of your choice and click on import button.

Step 5: Assign an Author (Users)
After you have successfully imported your blogger blog, you will be asked to assign to a user for your WordPress to the blogger posts on the next page. You choose more than one user but if you are the only user on your blog use the drop menu to attribute an appropriate user to all the post.

Step 6: Set Up permalinks on your WordPress dashboard
Go to Settings>> Permalinks>> and then select Custom Structure in your WordPress dashboard, make sure links are as the same in your blogger.
Step 7: Move all your blog post and other content from Blogger to WordPress
After setting up your permalink, next is to redirect your blogger post to your WordPress. To redirect your post to your WordPress is to install a plugin called Blogger to WordPress Redirection.
- To install this plugin, Go to Plugin >> Add new at the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard.
- Go the search box at the top and search for Blogger to WordPress Redirection

- Refresh the page and place your cursor to Tools >> Blogger to WordPress Redirection

- Go to your BlogSpot account and go to template scroll down and select, and click on the Revert to Classic Template link.

Step Six: Redirect Your Feed
- On your blogger dashboard navigate to Settings >> Other
- Next, go to the Post Feed Redirect URL and Click “Add Link” and add your URL “ yoursite.com/feed”

Note: Do not delete your BlogSpot otherwise redirection won’t take place.
